Screen Shot 2018-04-17 at 9.21.11 PM.png

Comfort Music Presents:

Joe Suihkonen:

Joe Suihkonen is an improviser, composer, and multi-instrumentalist residing in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood. After graduating Oberlin Conservatory in 2016, he has become an emerging artist in Chicago’s avant-garde, jazz, and rock music scenes. This solo performance will be given with guitar and voice and will use compositions and improvisations to probe the idea of “American Vernacular Guitar Music”

Helios Quartet:

Emily Kuhn - trumpet
Max Bessesen - saxophones
Mercedes Martinez - voice
Evan Levine - bass

Helios is a chamber jazz project led by trumpeter Emily Kuhn which performs highly improvisational, original music. The Helios Quartet is comprised of members of the larger, nine-piece ensemble, and their small, drummer-less instrumentation lends itself to intimate settings of the music. Members of Helios are active in the Chicago jazz, classical, and Latin music scenes, and the band synthesizes a wide variety of musical influences to create a unique group sound.
