Comfort Music Presents:
Chicago Mobile Gallery, with a performance by Vodstrup (Bart Woodstrup)
"Vodstrup is an artist working in time-based, electronic media with particular emphasis in the integration of sound and visuals. This audiovisual work culminates into the development of custom software capable of live, real-time performances of audio and video synthesis. When this work is compiled into a narrative format it is often enveloped by an ironic overtone, resulting from an investigation of sociological peculiarities, and derived from his personal philosophies. Examples of this work, termed Live Cinema, have explored topics of Internet dating services, pharmaceutical commercials, NASCAR, and brand/product placement. His work has been performed at many significant venues such as Recontres Internationales (Paris/Berlin), SEAMUS, Siggraph, Spring in Havana (Cuba), Version>03, Neuberger Museum, Currents 2013, and the National Gallery of Art. In 2005 he was a founding member of Pauline Oliveros’ telepresence ensemble Tintinnabulate. When he is not teaching in the Time Arts department of Northern Illinois University, he can be found hacking solar powered LED lawn lamps, inventing ways to carbon-neutrally power his plethora of electronic gadgets, or taking long walks with his pet, Rutt Etra. For his performance at Comfort Station Vodstrup will improvise soundscapes recently commissioned by New Delhi artist Uday Kulkarni for a collaborative album entitled Eureka."
