The POWER Project: The Free Zone

The Free Zone is meant as a space for relaxation. Drop in at any time during the designated hours with your yoga mat or blanket and enjoy some snacks. We’ll be projecting short films, music videos, and other moving images with aesthetic or thematic relationship to other P.O.W.E.R. Project events. Suggested Donation: $5. Your donation goes toward supporting the P.O.W.E.R. Project Grant. The Free Zone is accessible to all regardless of ability to donate.

Event Schedule:
Friday, June 2nd - 2pm-6pm
Tuesday, June 6th - 1pm - 7pm*
Monday, June 5th - 3pm-7pm
Wednesday, June 7th - 1pm - 5pm**

*Projections inspired by The POWER Project: 'Black & Blue' Indigo Dye Workshop

**Projections inspired by The POWER Project | Free School Session 001: Living in the Wake

"Oh, and did I say everyone in the movie would be beautiful, in the quotidian way of black people who are lit from within by the power of living in the free zone of ideas and creativity?" - Elizabeth Alexander, foreword of 'Whatever Happened to Interracial Love?'

About the P.O.W.E.R. Project
The P.O.W.E.R. Project is a programming partnership between Comfort Station and the Art Leaders of Color Network (ALCN). Throughout the month of June, the project will host a series of lectures, workshops, self-care exercises, and more in the aim of creating an ‘empowerment hub’ where people inspire each other to engage in a multitude of social justice practices.

Donations collected at each P.O.W.E.R. event, will go toward the P.O.W.E.R. Grant, a fund for participating artists with projects in alignment with the P.O.W.E.R. Project’s vision.
