The POWER Project | Beauty Breaks: Words We Carry

Beauty Breaks is a participatory art work in the form of a workshop series. This iteration highlights BLACK LINGUISTICS through darkness, sound and ancestry. Amina Ross, will lead Dark and Lovely: undoing the dark vs. light dichotomy in spiritual speech. From this meditative space the workshop will transition into an experimental sound performance and exercise led by A.J McClenon. This session will end with a conversation prompted by Jamillah Hinson on the importance of oral history. This session is accompanied by a walking meditation by Aniysa Alexander.

Snacks and drinks available throughout the duration of the event. MORE INFO @

Suggested Donation: $5 - $15. Your donation goes toward supporting Beauty Breaks and the P.O.W.E.R. Grant. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

The P.O.W.E.R. Project is a collaborative effort between Comfort Station and the Art Leaders of Color Network (ALCN). Throughout the month of June, the project will host a series of lectures, workshops, self-care exercises, and more in the aim of creating an ‘empowerment hub’ where people inspire each other to engage in a multitude of social justice practices.

Donations collected at each P.O.W.E.R. event, will go toward the P.O.W.E.R. Grant, a fund for participating artists with projects in alignment with the P.O.W.E.R. Project’s vision.
