Comfort Film presents

A shorts film program curated by Stephen Lanus.

1) Calumet by Alex Thompson (~15min)
2) Secret Screening (~10min)
3) Latrodectus by Stephen Lanus (~15min)

Shot in 2013, Calumet chronicles one evening in the life of a couple struggling with aging. It was awarded the Special Jury Award at the 2014 Rome International Film Festival and has screened at the World Arts Festival, Chicago Onscreen Festival and Cut! Film Festival.

Director Alex Thompson recently directed his debut feature, Brother Sister, and is in post-production on two serialized dramas, The Humbler and Drive Slow, the latter of which is in association with Free Spirit Media and Runaway Train. He is also the producer of Runaway Train's previous features, King Rat and Our Father, which are completing post-production this spring.

Latrodectus is a bizarre black comedy that explores the perils of dating, sexuality, and gender from an unusual perspective. It revolves around a young man who goes on the date of a lifetime - a date with dire implications.

It was written, directed, edited, and executive produced by Stephen Lanus - along with the help of about 25 other supremely talented individuals around the Chicago area. It was shot at the end of September 2016 in Humboldt Park, Logan Square, and Wicker Park over three days. This is Stephen's second directorial effort, and he hopes to begin work on a first feature in 2018.

Film makers will be in attendance and we will have a Q&A with each.
