Current projects include a quartet that explores parameter-based improvisation and non-traditional forms, a quartet that draws from the music of Paul Motian, and For The Birds, a sextet that performs compositions based on bird calls.

In addition to performing, Ishmael curates the Autotelic Series, an experimental music series happening on the first Wednesday of every month in Chicago.

Chainlink Trio [Hunton, Krouse, Pappalardo]

Chainlink is a collaborative, improvising trio including Chicago drummer Emerson Hunton, Chicago pianist Eric Krouse, and Brooklyn bassist Dan Papallardo. Their music focuses on long-form compositional structures, free improvisation, and high-intensity odd time signatures.
