Comfort Music: Parlour Tapes+ presents Carrie Frey & Jenna Lyle

pt+ logo.jpg

Comfort Music and Parlour Tapes+ Present:

Parlour Tapes-er Jenna Lyle and Violist of Power and Grace Carrie Frey team up to teach you, yes YOU, the ins and out of the bassoon in their multi-faceted, deeply informative presentation entitled "How to Play the Bassoon (with a viola)." Don't miss this prime opportunity for post-instrumental-distinction enlightenment. Featuring instructional video demonstrations by Bassoon legend Katherine A. Young.

About Carrie:

Carrie Frey loves working with open, inquisitive performers and composers to push the limits of herself, her instrument, and the sounds that the two of them can make in various combinations. An enthusiastic proponent of new music, she has premiered over 140 compositions.

In New York City, Carrie performs regularly with Petros Klampanis GroupAeon Ensemble, Wet Ink Large Ensemble, ensemble mise-en, and toy piano/toy viola duo Wind-Up Elephant.

Her string trio, Chartreuse, has sought after the essential sounds of meat grease, horseshoe crabs, water, creaky ships, Hardanger fiddles, elephants in love, hurdy gurdies, and starlings, among many others. This season, Chartreuse will join the inaugural Barnes Ensemble; perform at the Chicago Arts Club, Lancaster New Sounds, and the West Coast Permutations Series; and record their first full-length album.

As a member of deturtle (now distortoise), a double trio blending Chartreuse with guitarist Matthew Gold, drummer Nathan Friedman, and bassist Matthew Adomeit, Carrie wrote two tunes (Dandy LionPearls) that the band included in their 2013 tour of the U.S. Northeast. She recently premiered her own work for laptop and viola, threeand organizes an annual Minimalistmas festivity around her holiday adaptation of Terry Riley’s In C: Carrie Freiley’s In C(hristmas).
