Wheat Paste Viaducts (or, simply, “Wheat Paste”) is as much a directive as it is the name of this electronic music and media arts ensemble. The group uses sound and visual art to depict urban dystopia beautified by radical acts of creativity. Deftly navigating improvisation and arrangement, Wheat Paste’s evocative musical compositions shift and unfold with the militant dexterity of free jazz, inducing head-nods with the razor-sharp gravity of boom bap or trip-hop. Not only is the musical experience complimented by the striking imagery and movement of 16mm film from up to three projectors, the group also mixes and samples audio from the film and machine to create fully-immersive experiences for their audiences.

Dark Matter Series is a new monthly performance series curated by Elastic Arts co-founder Sam “samiam” Lewis and Jonathan Woods co-founder of BrightSeed Collaborative, focusing on new directions launching from and beyond hip-hop while exploring collaboration between sound and video.
