And This is Free (1965)

Documentary
KARTEMQUIN FILMS
Director: Mike Shea
Runtime: 50 mins
Media: Digital Projection

Plot: The legendary Maxwell Street market–Chicago's fabled kaleidoscope of races, religions, bargain hunters and street musicians–is captured in all its grit and hot-dog mustard glory in this cult classic of cinema-verite filmmaking; an early example of Gordon Quinn’s work as sound recordist and assistant editor.

Short Fiction
*USA Premier*
Film Director: Dave Less
Producer: Jen Howard
Theatrical Director: Anderson Lawfer
Musical Direction: Francesco Milioto
Music: Seth Boustead and Amos Gillespie
Runtime: 25 mins

Plot:
A brilliantly inventive essay on Chicago now refracted through the lens of legendary newspaperman Ben Hecht, who captured the city's essence a century ago for the late, still-lamented Chicago Daily News. A true multimedia ensemble piece (featuring an original score by the Access Contemporary Music ensemble) that playfully recreates Hecht's vision of Chicago as a "vast, broken mirror" reflecting itself.

About CIMMFEST
This is CIMMfest, the Chicago International Movies & Music Festival—a four-day showcase of outstanding films, energetic concerts, visually stunning VJ/DJ sets, lively Q&A’s, daring live score performances, industry panels and presentations…anything to show just what movies and music mean to each other. CIMMfest was imagined and brought to life by musician Josh Chicoine (Cloudbirds, The M’s) and filmmaker Ilko Davidov (BulletProof Film). Neither knew what he was getting into at the start, but hundreds of films, thousands of attendees and countless incredible experiences later, CIMMfest is a publicized, respected Chicago fixture.
