Comfort Society Presents:

Welcome to Hell: Extreme Metal for Beginners
A Talk by Bryan Wendorf
with a live performance by Of Wolves

Extreme metal--one step beyond heavy metal--is one of the most misunderstood forms of music to ever exist. A loose collection of genres that evolved out of traditional heavy metal in the early 80s, extreme metal includes black & death metal, doom, thrash, crust punk, grindcore, sludge and countless other mutations and sub-genres.
Bryan Wendorf, extreme metal fan and director of the Chicago Underground Film Festival traces the history and evolution of the sounds, visual styles and lyrical themes that have come to define these myriad styles and sounds. blast beats, corpsepaint, "cookie monster" vocals and church burnings will all be explored.

Following the discusion stick around for a performance from Chicago's metal/hardcore/stoner/doom purveyours Of Wolves.
