Sacred Harp

Join us for Sacred Harp singing!

Sacred Harp singing is an infectious, sing-at-the-top-of-your-lungs style of music with no performances, no audience, and no singing experience required. Sacred Harp is a form of shape-note music—so-called because the notes are written as square, ovals, triangles, and diamonds—that came to America with the first settlers and was designed to help people learn to read music. This new-singers Sacred Harp group will sing together the second and fourth Saturdays of the month and will cover an introduction to the format as well as the singing of several songs. The singings are open to everyone who wants to join in, but please keep in mind that the singings are community-based and participatory, they are not performances.
