This Wednesday night at 8pm kicks off our first screening of the month with a shorts film program called Home Movies, Reconsidered curated byMichael Wawzenek. In conjunction with the 2016 Vernacular Photo Festival at Comfort Station Logan Square.
This program of experimental films and videos looks at the ways in which Home Movies can be recontextualized to find or create new meanings. Typically made to preserve a memory, Home Movies can be dull to those who are too far removed from the subjects or creator. The works in this program parse, abstract, destroy, and recombine Home Movies as their source material to get at our root understandings of memory and history, and in so doing make the once deeply personal images more widely accessible.
